The Individual Player Rating System (IPRS) is a national evaluation framework developed by FH College Path to assess field hockey athletes across the United States using verified competitive achievements. The system translates participation and progression within the official USA Field Hockey pathway into a clear, standardized rating that can be easily understood by athletes, families, clubs, and college coaches.
The IPRS represents the natural next step following the College Path Players initiative, used for the Classes of 2026 and 2027, where FH College Path recognized athletes who demonstrated elite ability, sustained development, and strong collegiate potential. As field hockey continues to grow nationally and NCAA recruiting becomes increasingly competitive, the IPRS provides a long-needed structure that reflects true national competitive achievement rather than visibility or reputation.
The system is built directly on the official USA Field Hockey development pathway, including Nexus Championship (U-16 & U18 only), Junior Olympics, Junior National Team Selection Camps, the Junior U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), the Junior U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team (USWNIT), and their respective outdoor and indoor travel teams. These events represent the highest levels of youth evaluation in the United States and place athletes in high-performance environments where technical skill, tactical understanding, adaptability, and competitiveness are objectively assessed.
The IPRS uses a five-star rating scale to convert these verified milestones into a clear progression model. Outdoor pathway achievements carry the highest competitive weight, while indoor accomplishments provide additional value and visibility without inflating an athlete beyond the maximum five-star rating. All achievements remain visible on athlete profiles to ensure transparency and context.
Through this structure, athletes and families gain a transparent understanding of how national athletic achievements translate into a meaningful rating. College coaches receive a reliable tool for identifying prospects capable of making an immediate impact at the NCAA level. The system rewards progression—not participation—and reinforces the competitive integrity of the USA Field Hockey structure.
To provide clarity and accessibility, FH College Path presents the IPRS star progression model below:

FH College Path also recognizes that access to national USA Field Hockey events—particularly Nexus— may be limited by geography, travel demands, financial constraints, or multi-sport commitments. To support equity, FH College Path is developing IPRS Evaluation Events led by professional coaches, using standardized high-performance criteria to assess technical ability, tactical understanding, game intelligence, athletic profile, and competitive mindset.
In addition, FH College Path will host a National IPRS Showcase, allowing top athletes from across the country to compete directly in front of college coaches. While the showcase does not currently award stars, it plays a critical role in visibility, access, and recruiting exposure.
The first official IPRS release will debut with the Class of 2028, establishing the foundation for annual updates and future expansion. Moving forward, the IPRS will serve as a national reference point for evaluating field hockey talent in the United States.
The IPRS is more than a rating system—it is a unified standard for how field hockey talent is identified, measured, and understood.
